Dr. Robert Pennisi
As the lead technology consultant for Strategyn, Robert Pennisi
has led B2B and B2C projects in such diverse areas as biotechnology,
chemical products, microelectronics, advanced coatings, and product
packaging solutions. With over eight years of experience applying
Strategyn’s innovation management program, Dr. Pennisi has developed
an expertise that is unmatched in the industry.
His talent for innovation in technology development has led to a
process that enables the rapid development of valued-added
intellectual property in new and mature markets. He currently holds
over 40 U.S. patents and specializes in helping companies create
intellectual property that is tied to what customers value.
Prior to joining Strategyn, Dr. Pennisi spent 16 years with
Motorola, leading the Advanced Material Technologies Group for the
two-way radio, paging, iDEN, and cell phone business units. During
his tenure at Motorola, his contributions impacted surface mount
assembly materials and processes, advanced-component technologies
(including BGA packaging), housing materials, and displays. These
efforts earned him Motorola’s Master Innovator Award and election to
Motorola’s Science Advisory Board. He also led the application of
Strategyn’s methodologies to the advanced-technology and product
development processes in Motorola.
Dr. Pennisi was the editor of the Motorola Journal of Science and
Technology and the chairperson of the Motorola Analytical
Technology Symposium and the IEEE Electronic Materials workshop on
emerging encapsulation materials. He has over 25 publications in
trade and scientific journals, and his work was featured in the
American Quality & Productivity Center’s 2000 best-practice
benchmarking study for using customer insights to drive product
development.
Dr. Pennisi has also worked with local business leaders, the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and two
state-funded centers—Southeast Florida Manufacturing Technology
Center (SFMTC) and Florida Manufacturing Technology Center (FMTC).
He served as interim president of the SFMTC and on the board of
directors of the FMTC for three years.
Dr. Pennisi holds a BS in chemistry from Union College and a PhD in
polymer science from the University of Akron (Ohio).
